In addition to being the filming location of Lord of the Rings, New Zealand is also a filming location for the film Narnia. Let’s explore the beautiful world of Narnia!

Maybe many travelers who do not know yet, that besides Hobbiton (where the Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit filming), New Zealand is also a Narnia filming location. The spot is at Cathedral Cove, Coromandel.

Cathedral Cove captured on the big screen in the film The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. The location is in the southern part of Mercury Bay. Precisely at the very north of Hahei Beach.

Cathedral Cove

Sunny weather welcomed us that afternoon. The blue sky also accompanied us.

The atmosphere of Cathedral Cove was not too crowded. There are only a few residents who are traveling there. Although popular, but its popularity is not as high as Hobbiton. But that is precisely the advantage of this destination. As the name implies, Cathedral Cove shaped like an arch that we usually find in a cathedral while cove means a small bay.

In Mount Eden New Zealand, You Can See Magical Twilight

In Maori language, Cathedral Cove referred to as Te Whanganui-A-Hei. The area itself is around 9 square kilometers and included in the nature conservation area. Because it is not too crowded with tourists, we are freer to do holiday activities, without fear of being clumsy because of too many people. There are many activities that a traveler can do here.

Things To Do Cathedral Cove

The beaches are white sand, gently sloping and very suitable for relaxing and sunbathing to enjoy the warm sunlight, as many do by residents of New Zealand. The clean sea is also very possible for us to play water. Wet playing water around Cathedral Cove is enjoyable.

Traveler can also play kayaking and canoeing, as well as diving and snorkeling. Around this beach, several tour operators offer these activities. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, we did not have time to try the event. Or a traveler can choose electric cycling.

For us, this is a new experience that is worth a try — going up and down the hill then ending at the beach. Moreover, the weather was supportive. Exciting!

Best Time to Visit Cathedral Cove

December is the beginning of summer, while January is the middle of summer in New Zealand. But in January is the beginning of the school holiday season and the peak tourist season. If you don’t want to be too crowded, you can try visiting in February.

Don’t forget to capture every moment on the set of the Narnia film with the camera.
